- (迦樓羅, 迦楼罗)
(sa) garuḍa; 'a mythical bird, the chief of the feathered race, the enemy of the serpent race, the vehicle of Vishṇu.' M. W. Tr. as golden-winged, with an expanse of 3,360,000 (zh) li, carrying the (zh) ruyi pearl or talisman on its neck; among other accounts one says it dwells in great trees and feeds on snakes or dragons. Also [lang id =1028]迦婁羅; [lang id =1028]迦留羅; [lang id =1028]迦嘍荼; [lang id =1028]伽樓羅; [lang id =1028]揭路荼; [lang id =1028]誐嚕拏 (or [lang id =1028]蘗嚕拏). The association of the (sa) garuḍa, like the phoenix, with fire makes it also a symbol of flame [lang id =1028]迦樓羅炎.* * *梵語迦樓羅, 華言金翅、 即金翅鳥神, 其翮金色故也。 兩翅相去三百三十六萬里。 頸有如意珠, 以龍為食。* * *又作迦留羅, 華譯為金翅鳥, 牠取龍為食, 為八部眾之一。
